American Idol winner Scotty McCreery has spoken out after being robbed at gunpoint yesterday morning, describing the ordeal as a "very scary night" while thanking the local police for their intervention.
The 20-year-old, who won the singing competition in 2011, was at a residence near North Carolina State University's campus in Raleigh in the early hours of Monday morning when the armed robbery took place.

According to CNN, three armed burglars entered the property where McCreery was present with a group of friends, and stole money, wallets and a number of electronic devices from several members of the group before fleeing.
Fortunately, none of the victims were injured during the robbery and McCreery has taken to Facebook to address the incident, reassuring fans of his safety and wellbeing.
"Yes, it was definitely a very scary night. Luckily, my friends and I are safe and the Raleigh PD is on the case," McCreery said in the post titled "About last night's robbery."
"I will share more when the time is right, but as of now we do not want to do or say anything that could hinder the investigation. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and support.
"A huge thank you to the Raleigh PD for their quick response and hard work in solving this case," he added.
Since winning Fox's American Idol in 2011, McCreery has gone on to enjoy a successful career in country music with his debut album 'Clear As Day' soaring to number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and being certified platinum within weeks.
He is currently touring his third studio album 'See You Tonight' which again topped the charts in October.
