'Flintstones' movie in the works, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay producing - TheCelebrityCafe.com

Warner Bros. is going to make another attempt at bringing the iconic Hanna-Barbera series The Flintstones back to life. This time, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions is working on it.

The Campaign writer Chris Henchy has been assigned to write the project, reports The Hollywood Reporter, which first confirmed the news. Variety also reported the news, pointing out that it is the latest Warner Bros. animated project.

The Flintstones ran from 1960 to 1966, but is still a beloved series, with a 1994 live-action film from Universal. The property is now owned by Time Warner through Turner Broadcasting's ownership of the Hanna-Barbera's library.

Warner Bros. has tried to revive The Flintstones before, most recently in 2011 with Seth MacFarlane overseeing. He wrote a script, but he had to put the project on the shelf due to his incredibly busy schedule. Obviously, Warner Bros. is letting that script collect dust and moving forward.

It's worth noting that Warner Bros. did schedule two untitled animated projects last night. These will be released on Feb. 10, 2017 and Feb. 9, 2018. It's not clear if Flintstones is either of these, because this project is at such an early stage.

The studio has been increasingly interested in making its own animation projects after the incredible success of The LEGO Movie this year.
