People magazine says George Clooney plans to marry Amal Alamuddin

At the very least, this should lead to one epic bachelor party. magazine reports that George Clooney, the world's most debonair single fellow, has apparently gotten engaged to his girlfriend of seven months, British human rights attorney Amal Alamuddin. The 52-year-old actor and his 36-year-old fiancĂ© aren't ones to flaunt their private lives, so Clooney's rep has delivered a "no comment" in response to People's report. But the magazine quotes several sources saying that a ring has been delivered, and that the pair will be wed at some point in the future. Astoundingly, no specific plans have been made public. That must be some kind of oversight. When rumors surfaced in the fall that Clooney — who had had split with his previous girlfriend, Stacy Keibler, over the summer — was possibly seeing Alamuddin, his spokesman, Stan Rosenfeld, issued a rare denial, saying he was not seeing her, nor two others who had set the gossip! grapevine chattering: Katie Holmes and supermodel Monika Jakisic.  A source told People then that Clooney was just friends with Alamuddin and that they had merely been "working on a [surveillance] satellite program over Syria." Before becoming one of the world's most celebrated bachelors, Clooney was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. As recently as this January, Clooney addressed his views on marriage in an interview with Esquire. Asked if he was surprised to be single again at his age, the actor said: "I am surprised, yeah. But I'm surprised by almost everything that's happened in my life. I'm surprised I don't live in Kentucky and sell insurance, too. I mean, I really am."

As for why he isn't married with kids…

"I haven't had aspirations in that way, ever," he told Esquire. "I was married in 1989. I wasn't very good at it. I was quoted as saying I'll never get married again pretty much right after I got divorced and then I've never talked about it since."

Well, whatever their current status, mazel tov to George and Amal. As for those legions of fans who harbored a secret crush that someday they might be the one to change his mind on the whole marriage equation … our condolences.
