A real life scandal seems to have cost "Scandal" star Columbus Short his job.

The 31-year-old actor released a statement Friday confirming his exit from the hit ABC drama, which comes amid charges he put a knife to his wife's throat and threatened to kill her.

Tanee McCall filed for a restraining order against her husband after the April 7 domestic disturbuance in which SHort is also accused of choking her while accusing her of sleeping with other men, TMZ first reported.

Short's most recent arrest followed a spate of other ugly incidents. In February, he was arrested and accused of attacking his wife in front of their children, and again two weeks later for pushing her in a separate incident. Then Short was busted a month later for allegedly punching a guest at an engagement party.

McCall has since filed for divorce, asking for custody of the couple's 2-year-old daughter.

That may have been too much drama for "Scandal" creator Shonda Rhimes.

"At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I've called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today," Short said in the statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly.

"Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for (my character) Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. "

The writers have a convenient out since Short's character already faced an uncertain future in last week's "Scandal" season finale. In a cliffhanger, Harrison Wright was facing down the barrel of a gun from a would-be assassin.
